Edition 11/20 of my sculpture of the Whispering Door, Clonmacnoise, Co. Offaly, is now available.
The frame is 40cm x 46cm x 4.5cm (14.5” x 17” x 1.7”).
This piece was sculpted in wax and then moulded, I then cast, paint and frame each edition. The moulding and casting process makes all 20 editions related, but, each piece is unique as each one is painted by hand. When I paint I am influenced by my mood, the light and the weather outside. Some are sunny and bright and some are stormy and dark.

On a site founded by St Ciaran in the 6th century is a place of huge historic importance, the Whispering Door serves as the North entrance to the cathedral on the site of Clonmacnoise, Co. Offaly which is one of the oldest and most important early Christian settlements in Europe. It is believed that most of the buildings still standing at the site today were built between the 9th to 11th centuries, a time where Clonmacnoise was known as a place of pilgrimage and renowned for its literary and artistic achievements receiving the patronage of kings a chieftains alike. There are many stories surrounding this doorway but one is that it was used by lovers to whisper their true feelings to each other with their voices carrying to each other through the curves in the stone, the sounds of the Shannon lapping in the distance.
This sculpture of the Whispering Door, Clonmacnoise, is a limited edition of 20 pieces, all made in my studio in the West of Ireland. Each piece is made individually so the colours and finish of each piece will vary. The photos are of edition 10 of 20.
Shipping within Ireland costs €8 with An Post, parcels are tracked and delivery is usually within 2-3 working days. (Christmas shipping schedules may have longer delivery periods.)
Shipping outside Ireland costs €60 using the postal service, parcels are tracked. Delivery to the USA takes 3-4 weeks on average. Please note that all shipments going outside the EU may be liable for import duties.
