Limited edition sculpture of the East Window at Kilmacduagh Abbey, Co. Galway. The frame is 37cm x 43cm x 4.5cm (14.5β x 17β x 1.7β).
Each piece is first sculpted in wax and then moulded, I then cast, paint and frame each one. The casting of each piece makes all 20 pieces related, but, like siblings each has it’s own personality and imperfections which make it unique.
I really enjoy the sculpture element of my work but each piece I paint is influenced by my mood, the light and the weather outside. Some are sunny and bright and some are rainy and moody.
I love them all.
Sitting right on the edge of the Burren near Gort, Co. Galway you will find a collection of ruins which makes up the monastic settlement of Kilmacduagh. The monastic settlement was founded in the 7th century which is quite amazing. This sculpture is a view of the two lancet windows in the east gable of the 13th century church known as ‘Abbey of St Mary de Petra’. This particular church has many beautiful sculptural details still intact and the whole site is still spectacular!
Each piece is lovingly sculpted by hand in wax and then moulded, cast and delicately painted to capture the life of the building. The thin and fragile edges, the cracks and the weathered stone are all part of the tapestry of Ireland’s beautiful landscape, history and traditions.
The box frame is 37cm x 43cm x 5cm and is free standing due to itβs depth or can be suspended on the wall using the hook at the back.
Each sculpture of the East window at Kilmacduagh Abbey is 15cm x 20cm.
All of my sculptures are limited edition, made in my studio in the West of Ireland. Please note that as each piece is handmade, slight variations from the images will occur. The photos are of Edition 3 of 20.
