The fourth piece in my latest collection, ‘Into the Woods’.
‘Into the Woods’ was inspired by the young silver birch woods I walked through on my way to visit to St Saviours’ Priory, Glendalough in 2025. Over a number of months, I spent time experimenting and playing in my studio, accidentally creating the ghostly transfers that became the backgrounds in this collection. I also explored different papers and textures to create layers of depth, inviting the viewer to look beyond the surface.
I have always been a lover of stories, fantasy and escape alongside my obvious love of history. Through this collection, I have begun to tell some of the stories that have lived in my imagination for years. Learning to combine 2D and 3D elements into a cohesive artwork has been an enjoyable challenge.
I hope you enjoy exploring ‘Into the Woods’ as much as I enjoyed creating it.
The sculpture used in this work was first created in wax and clay, moulded, cast and then carefully hand-painted by me in my studio in the West of Ireland.
