This is quite a stand-out piece of work, it is made up of 4 individual sculptures each based on a capital from the cloister at Cong Abbey, Co. Mayo.
The cloister was destroyed in the 1500s, what we can see today was reconstructed using some stones that were found on the site and some new stones. It must have been spectacular in it’s day, as every single one has a different design. I wish I could have seen it!
I wanted to highlight the detail in this work and these pieces were cast carefully to incorporate the crumbling texture and then painted to emphasise it. This is actually a real favourite of mine. The individual capitals have been available to purchase on my website, but I had framed these 4 together back in 2023 and never listed it here.

The frame is 39cm x 84cm x 4.5cm (15” x 33” x 1.7”).
These pieces were sculpted in clay and then moulded, each edition is then cast, painted and framed. This process makes all 40 editions related, but, like siblings each has it’s own personality and imperfections which make it unique.

These sculptures of the capitals from the cloister at Cong Abbey, Co. Mayo are limited edition sculptures of 40 pieces, all made in my studio in the West of Ireland. Each piece is made individually so the colours and finish of each piece will vary. The photos are of edition 7 of 10.
Shipping within Ireland costs €8 with An Post, parcels are tracked and delivery is usually within 2-3 working days.
Shipping outside Ireland costs €70 using the postal service, parcels are tracked. Delivery to the USA takes 3-4 weeks on average. Please note that all shipments going outside the EU may be liable for import duties.
