Edition 5/5, the very last edition, of my sculpture based on the doorway at Cong Abbey, Co. Mayo, is now available!

This is the largest doorway I have created to date. The photos are based on edition 4 of 5.

The frame is 66cm x 66cm x 5cm (26″ x 26″ x 2″).

Shipping costs about €200 to the US & Canada, please contact me directly to get a quote for this piece due to the size. I always want to ensure that it gets to you safely and quickly.

This piece was first sculpted in wax, then moulded, cast, painted and framed. The moulding and casting process makes all 5 editions related, but, each piece is unique as each one is painted by hand. When I paint I am influenced by my mood, the light and the weather outside. Some are sunny and bright and some are stormy and dark.

I worked on this piece on and off over about 3 months. Cong is a favourite spot of mine and the combination of the gothic arch with quite Romanesque detail really attracted me.

The doorway was sculpted by hand in wax, once the sculpt was finished I moved on to moulding and casting. The casting process allows me to achieve the cracks and the crumbling edges that make each edition unique.

Next, I move on to painting, I aim to capture the life and colours I see in the stone. When I paint I am influenced by my mood, the light and the weather outside. Some are sunny and bright and some are stormy and dark.

The framing is the final stage, it sets the piece apart from the world, helps me to focus and see the beauty in the stone without the distractions. It is framed in a grey timber veneer box frame without glass in order to be really able to get up close with the sculpture.

As there is no glass, this piece is not suitable for display in a room with an open fire, or a kitchen for example, where there would be lots of little dirt particles in the air. The piece itself is varnished, so it can be wiped gently with a damp cloth if needed and the frame and the backboard is varnished also, so these can be wiped clean if necessary.

This sculpture of Cong Abbey is seriously limited to only 5 editions, all made by me, here in the West of Ireland. Each edition is cast and painted by me which means each is an original piece and is not the same as any other.

Please note that all shipments going outside the EU may be liable for import duties. Buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes that may apply. I am not responsible for delays due to customs.
