Unique original – one of a kind

This artwork is the second in my new collection of experimental works – continuing my exploration of the profound change in my life since becoming a mother in 2024.

This piece explores the timeless story of mother and child through two sculptures based on windows from Mellifont Abbey (on the left) and Boyle Abbey (on the right) – Mellifont historically being the mother house to Boyle. These two windows face in opposite directions yet remain forever connected, symbolising the unbreakable bond between mother and child while also acknowledging the independence of separate lives.

Behind them lies a backdrop of flowing red fabric – a symbol of life, tattered by the winds of time, yet enduring.

An eternal tale of the human experience.

The sculptural elements of this work were first created in wax, then moulded and cast separately, finally the two were joined.
