This artwork was a commissioned piece for a client who has family connections to the area. The first edition is now happily living in New Jersey. While I have sculpted one bridge in the past, Poulaphouca, bridges are not my usual subject matter, though they are still made of stone!
I chose these newer grey veneer frames with the double mat surround, and I am very pleased with the effect. I was sad to ship the piece off to my client as I quite enjoyed having it on my mantlepiece for 2 days!
I would be very happy to make another if this place is special for anyone else!
The sculptural elements of this work were first created in wax, moulded, cast and then painted.
Fragile edges, cracks and weathered stone are intentionally created as a reflection of life, which appears to be an unending fascination for me.
This is an original artwork created by me in my studio in the West of Ireland, extremely limited with only 3 editions available.
